In this class, we will read a lot about other people’s scientific work. For your term project, I would like to give you the opportunity to do your own empirical work and to do it the way most scientists work, as part of a team. Each week, we will spend part of class talking through your projects. We will start by identifying a research question. Then we’ll talk about how we might modify that research question in light of previous work in the field. We’ll move on to issues of experimental design and data collection and then discuss analysis and reporting of your data. Finally, you will present your work to the rest of the class during the last meeting of the semester. Your final paper will be an APA style report of your empirical project. It seems like a big undertaking, and it is, but we will walk through step-by-step, week-by-week throughout the semester. We will also probably have occasion to meet outside of class to make sure your project remains on track. |
